The NAUMD honored two of its own during last month's convention in St. Louis, naming Jerry Vereen and the late John Gunzler as Lifetime Achievement Award Recipients. The Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes persons that have given a lifetime of service to the uniform industry. Through their vision, attitude and work, these individuals have demonstrated a commitment to the uniform business that has spanned a career. Vereen and Gunzler are the first recipients of the newly created award.

Jerry Vereen served as CEO of Riverside Manufacturing Co., a mainstay garment manufacturer and employer in Moultrie, GA. The company was founded and managed by the Vereen family for over a century.

Jerry was a longtime NAUMD board member, and was active on numerous committees. He was also a board member of Georgia Power, and the International Apparel Federation.

John Gunzler served as vice president of Edwards Garment Company until his retirement, and was an active NAUMD member for many years. John was honored posthumously, having died suddenly last November.

John assumed several leadership roles at NAUMD, including member of the Board of Directors, and chair of the Image Apparel Institute (IAI). He was instrumental in the revitalization of the IAI's Image of the Year Awards Program, raising its stature through marketing efforts and boosting its popularity with the Image of the Year Awards Gala, a black tie evening event for which he served as Master of Ceremonies.
